Egypt’s ready-made clothing exports hit $757m in H1

Cairo – Mubasher: Egyptian ready-made clothing exports rose by 9% year-on-year during the first half of 2018, the Ready Made Garments Export Council said in its monthly bulletin.

Exports of the ready-made garments sector amounted to $757 million in the January-June period of this year, versus $697 million in the year-ago period, state-run news agency MENA reported.

The sector’s exports to the US increased by 10% to 373 million in the six-month period ended June, compared to $340 million in H1-17, the council indicated.

Moreover, exports to Europe went up by 13% to reach $254 million at the end of June, compared to $225 million in the corresponding period of 2017.

Exports to the African countries also rose by 11% year-on-year in H1-18, recording $1.5 million from $1.4 million, according to the bulletin.

On the other hand, Egyptian ready-made clothing exports to the Arab countries declined by 27% to $32 million in the first six months of this year, versus $44 million in H1-17.
