Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Ministry of Planning and Economic Development is committed to injecting public investments into the development of infrastructure in the country, especially transportation, water, sanitation, and electricity sectors.
Public investments directed to these sectors reached EGP 500 billion between 2018 and 2021, up by 20% from the prior three years, the Minister of Planning, Hala El-Saeed, said in her speech to the parliament on Monday.
These sectors acquired 32% of overall public investments during the three years.
From 2018 to 2020, the ministry financed 416 electricity projects at a cost of EGP 95.6 million, 689 housing projects at a cost of EGP 72.6 million, as well as sanitation projects that led to increasing the urban and rural sanitation coverage to 96 and 37.5%, respectively, she revealed.
Moreover, 145 transportation projects were financed with EGP 33.2 billion, 37 petroleum projects were implemented at a cost of EGP 431 billion, and 458 projects in the water resources and irrigation sector were built at a cost of EGP 5.6 billion.
Meanwhile, public investments directed to human development such as health and education sectors were up by 170% to EGP 150 billion between 2018 and 2021.
