Egypt's pharmaceutical sector valued at EGP 125bn - Prime Minister

Cairo – Mubasher: Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly affirmed the importance of developing the pharmaceutical and medical equipment manufacturing sectors.

On the sidelines of inaugurating the Medicine City in Khanka on Thursday, Madbouly revealed that the volume of the pharmaceutical sector in Egypt amounts to EGP 125 billion, according to state-run TV.

He further added that the country has become self-sufficient by 88% in the pharmaceutical sector, while the remaining 12% are mainly complicated and highly advanced medicines such as cancer drugs.

On a side note, he said that the government allocated EGP 11 billion to mitigate the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in 2020.

In addition, the country is expected to inaugurate the first integrated plasma plant in the New Administrative Capital by the end of 2022.
