Egypt's ongoing, completed projects reach EGP 4.4trn in seven years - Planning Minister

Cairo - Mubasher: Egypt's Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El-Saeed revealed that the total cost of completed and ongoing projects from July 2014 until June 2021 reached EGP 4.4 trillion. 

Over the seven-year period, a total of EGP 2.4 trillion has been injected into projects in 22 sectors across all governorates, along with public investments worth EGP 2 trillion, El-Saeed added in a statement on Wednesday. 

The petroleum and mineral resources sector led other sectors during the period with completed projects at a cost of EGP 1.2 trillion. 

These projects include the Zohr gas field development project with a capacity of 2.7 billion cubic feet per day, the North Alexandria and West Delta Nile development project with a capacity of 0.7 billion cubic feet per day, the 128-kilometre (km) Nooros/Abu Madi/El-Gamil gas pipeline, and the Egyptian Refining Company's (ERC) refinery in Mostorod with a production capacity of 4.7 million tonnes per year. 

Additionally, the electricity sector witnessed completed projects at a cost of EGP 403 billion, including the 650 megawatt- (MW) South Helwan Steam Power Station, as well as 12 stations at a capacity of 485 MW in Benban and the 250-MW Gulf of Suez Wind Farm. 

The completed projects in the housing and slum development sector reached EGP 225 billion, while transportation projects amounted to EGP 117 billion during the seven-year period.
