Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s non-oil exports increased by 11% year-on-year (YoY) to $9.800 billion in the first four months of 2021, compared to $8.853 billion, Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea revealed.
The country’s exports increased despite the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic, thanks to the efforts exerted by the government to support production and export sectors, Gamea noted in a statement on Wednesday.
Imports grew by 5% YoY to $23.130 billion in the January-April period from $21.975 billion in the year-ago period.
Exports of medical industries surged by 60% to $236 million from $148 million, while exports of engineering industries jumped by 48% to $969 million from $655 million.
The US topped Egypt's market export destinations with $676 million, followed by Turkey with $651 million, Saudi Arabia with $633 million, Italy with $586 million, and Malta with $406 million.
China came in the first position with the largest value of imports to Egypt with $4.109 billion, followed by the US with $2.098 billion, Germany with $1.345 billion, Russia with $1.11 billion, and Italy with $877 million.
