Egypt’s manufacturing index declines 2.5% in October – CAPMAS

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s index of manufacturing and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, fell by 2.55% to 96.45 (initial) in October from 98.97 (final) in September, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

The index of manufacturing computers, electronics, and optical, and medical equipment advanced by 6.59% month-on-month (MoM) to 98.18 in October from 92.11 a month earlier on the back of higher sales, the CAPMAS said in a statement on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the index of manufacturing non-metallic mineral products such as brick, glass, and cement registered 83.66, up by 3.61% MoM from 80.74 in September, helped by the increased demand for cement.

On the other hand, the index of manufacturing beverages dropped by 19.90% to 150.19 in October from 187.49 in the prior month amid the winter season.

In addition, the index of manufacturing chemical products and materials declined by 2.67% MoM to 107.84 from 110.80 in September.
