Egypt’s holding of US Treasuries rises to highest level in nine months

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s holding of US Treasuries levelled up to its highest level since June 2020, registering the first increase in four months.

The country’s holding of US Treasuries grew to $2.248 billion in March, compared to $2.236 billion in the same month a year earlier, and $2.242 billion in February 2021, data by the US Department of the Treasury showed.

Saudi Arabia topped Arab holders of US Treasuries with a value of $130.8 billion, followed by Kuwait with $45.7 billion and the UAE with $45.6 billion.

The value of US Treasuries retreated by $70.3 billion to $7.028 trillion in March, compared to $7.098 trillion in February.

Year-on-year (YoY), the value of US Treasuries rose by 1.1% from $6.949 trillion in March 2020.
