Egypt’s gov’t invests EGP 23.5bn in 103k residential units in 2020

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Ministry of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities built about 103,000 residential units at a total cost of EGP 23.46 billion in 2020.

The established units included 50,000 units in Sakan Misr, 13,300 alternative housing units for slum residents, 33,300 middle-income housing units, 5,300 luxury housing units, 416 units in the Bedouin project, and 383 units in Nubian housing rehabilitation projects, the Minister of Housing, Assem El-Gazzar, said in a statement on Monday.

Over the course of 2020, the ministry established 43 drinking water projects at a capacity of 447,500 cubic metres per day and a cost of EGP 5.4 billion, 42 urban sanitation projects at a capacity of 525,500 cubic metres per day and a cost of EGP 6.6 billion, and 148 rural sanitation projects at a cost of EGP 5.1 billion.

In addition, a total of 24 road projects were constructed at total lengths of 243.4 kilometres and a cost of EGP 3.1 billion.
