Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt's exports to East Asian countries hiked by 62.80% during 2021, recording $6.60 billion, compared to $4.10 billion in 2020, Akhbar El-Yom cited the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
Imports from East Asian countries reached $25.80 billion last year, an increase of 24.30% when compared to $20.80 billion in 2020.
The CAPMAS bulletin covers the volume of foreign trade (exports-imports) with the most important countries in East Asia; Malaysia, China, India, Taiwan, Japan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Thailand, South Korea, Singapore, and Bangladesh.
India came at the top of the exports list with $2.10 billion in 2021, compared to $1.40 billion in 2020, up 46.50%, while China came second with $1.50 billion in 2021, 95.70% higher than $800 million in 2020.
As per imports, China came first with $14.40 billion in 2021, a yearly jump of 23.40% when compared to $11.70 billion, and India came second, with $3.20 billion in 2021, up 22.40% from $2.60 billion in 2020.
Fuel and petroleum products as well as extractive industries products ranked first in exports during 2020 and 2021, recording $4.50 billion in 2021, compared to $2.40 billion in 2020, a hike of 88.40%, while machinery, mechanical and electrical appliances, and transportation equipment came first in imports during 2020 and 2021, by $10 billion in 2021, compared to $8.30 billion in 2020, a rise of 20.50%.
