Egypt’s exports to East Asia hit $3.2bn in 2019 – CAPMAS

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s exports to East Asian countries retreated by 6% to $3.2 billion in 2019, compared to $3.4 billion in 2018, the Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported on Tuesday, citing official data.

On the other hand, the North African nation’s imports from East Asian countries increased by 4.9% to $22.5 billion last year from $21.5 billion in 2018, according to data by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

India topped Egypt’s export destinations with $1.482 billion in 2019, compared to $1.145 billion in 2018, followed by China with $545.9 million in 2019, compared to $1.035 billion in 2018.

Meanwhile, China came in the first position among the top East Asian exporters to Egypt with $11.955 billion in 2019, compared to $11.582 billion in the prior year, followed by India with $2.936 billion last year, compared to $2.318 billion a year earlier.

Fuel and petroleum products ranked first among Egypt’s exports to East Asian countries with a value of $1.736 billion in 2019, compared to $1.841 billion, while machinery and electric devices came first among Egypt’s imports with a value of $8.305 billion in 2019, compared to $8.387 billion in the prior year.
