Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt's consumption of natural gas posted a more than 20-fold increase to reach 47 million tonnes in fiscal year (FY) 2020/2021, the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Tarek El-Molla, said.
The electricity sector accounted for 60% of gas consumption during the year ended 30 June, while the manufacturing and household sectors acquired 12% and 6% of gas consumption, respectively, El-Molla added in a statement on Sunday.
The country aims to increase household consumption to 7% in FY21/22 by expanding the natural gas network, the minister noted, adding that the number of households connected to the network reached 2.3 million over the last 41 years, 50% of which were connected during the last seven years.
