Egypt Today: Egypt’s chemical and fertilizer exports rose to approximately $6.85 billion between January and September 2025, up from $6.2 billion during the same period in 2024 — a 10 percent increase.
This growth comes as part of the broader expansion of Egypt’s non-oil exports, which climbed 20 percent year-on-year to $37.8 billion, underscoring the country’s rising global competitiveness and export diversification.
According to the Export Council for Chemical Industries and Fertilizers, fertilizers led the sector’s performance with a 9 percent increase, followed by plastics and polymers at 3 percent, while petrochemicals recorded a notable 33 percent growth.
Other segments also achieved strong results: intermediate chemicals and detergents grew by 13 percent, inks and paints by 11 percent, glass products by 14 percent, rubber products by 4 percent, adhesives and glues by 45 percent, and dry cells surged by 75 percent compared to the previous year.
Turkey emerged as Egypt’s top export destination with $992.7 million in imports, followed by Italy ($937.5 million), Brazil ($485.7 million), Saudi Arabia ($461.7 million), Spain ($337 million), France ($295.5 million), Libya ($230.3 million), Morocco ($195 million), and Algeria ($170.3 million). Together, these markets represented around 62 percent of total sector exports.
Regionally, the European Union accounted for 41 percent of Egypt’s total chemical exports, followed by Arab League countries with 22 percent, non-Arab Asian countries with 17 percent, non-Arab African markets with 6 percent, and the United States with 2 percent, while the remaining 12 percent was distributed among other global markets.
Khaled Abou El Makarem, Chairman of the Export Council for Chemical Industries and Fertilizers, stated that the council—working alongside the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, the Ministry of Industry, and other government bodies—is pursuing a comprehensive growth strategy targeting an annual export increase of 10 to 15 percent in the coming years.
He added that the 2026 action plan includes trade missions to promising African markets, participation in major international exhibitions across Arab, Gulf, and European countries, and the launch of training and support programs designed to help Egyptian companies expand their global footprint and enhance competitiveness.
