Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt's annual inflation rate rose to 8% in January 2022, compared to 4.8% in the same month in 2021, according to the latest data by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
On a monthly basis, the consumer price index (CPI) stood at 119.1 points in January 2022, up 1% from December 2021.
Higher inflation is attributed to a rise in the prices of sugar and sugary food by 14.7%, vegetables by 4.3%, dairy, cheese, and eggs by 2.5%, meat and poultry by 2.3%, and electricity, gas, and other fuel materials by 0.2%.
Meanwhile, the prices of fruits and transportation services retreated by 0.2% and 0.3%, respectively.
