Egypt’s annual inflation rate declines in September – CBE

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s annual core inflation rate retreated to 39.7% last September from 40.4% in August 2023, according to the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE).

The monthly core CPI inflation hit 1.1% in September 2023, compared to 1.6% during the same month in 2022 and 0.3% in August this year.

Meanwhile, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) data showed that the monthly core CPI inflation of Egypt recorded 2% in September 2023, higher than 1.5% in the year-ago period.

On a monthly basis, the reported CPI increased from 1.6% in August 2023.

Earlier this week, the central bank directed the lenders operating in the Arab Republic to halt the use of debit cards abroad due to the foreign currency shortage in the country.
