Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt's annual headline inflation rate registered 5.1% in 2020, compared to 8.5% in 2019, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) announced on Sunday.
In December 2020, the country's annual headline inflation reached 6%, down from 6.8% in the prior month, data showed.
The consumer price index (CPI) stood at 110.6 points in December 2020, falling by 0.5% from November.
The decline in the inflation rate was ascribed to lower prices of vegetable by 10.1%, seafood by 0.6%, meat and poultry by 0.2%, dairy products and eggs by 0.1%, and ready-made garments by 0.6%.
On the other hand, the prices of fruits rose by 3.8%, oils and fats by 0.5%, bread and grains by 0.2%, transport services by 0.7%, and house rentals by 0.1%.
