Egypt pays EGP 425m for universal insurance claims

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s General Authority for Universal Health Insurance has witnessed strong demand from citizens willing to register in the universal health insurance system in Port Said, South Sinai, Ismailia, Luxor, and Aswan.

A total of 3 million citizens have registered in the universal health insurance scheme so far, the Minister of Finance, Mohamed Maait, said in a statement on Tuesday.

The finance ministry has paid EGP  425 million to cover healthcare claims, while EGP 200 million worth of claims are currently under financial and technical review, Maait added.

Citizens covered under the universal health insurance system will pay no more than EGP 300 even in the largest surgeries such as organ transplants.
