Cairo – Mubasher: Egyptian non-oil exports to Jordan grew 22.5% in the first four months of 2017 to $167 million, Egypt’s minister of trade and industry said in a statement on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Egyptian imports from Jordan amounted to $29 million during the same period, Tarek Kabil revealed, noting that the figure was unchanged from the corresponding period of 2016.
The trade balance between the two countries rose 18.5% year-on-year to $196 million between January and April 2017, the minister noted.
Kabil’s statement preceded the launch of the preparatory meetings of the 27th Egyptian-Jordanian Higher Committee. Egypt’s minister of investment and international cooperation Sahar Nasr will head the Egyptian side.
Jordanian investments in Egypt involve 1,634 projects at a total value of $532 million in a variety of sectors including services, industry, financing, construction, agriculture, communications and IT, and tourism.
On the other hand, Egypt’s investments in Jordan amount to $310 million and encompass construction, foodstuffs, the heavyweight industries sector, the financial sector, and communications and IT, among others, the statement showed.
