Egypt launches COVID-19 vaccination programme on Sunday

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt will start its coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination programme on Sunday, the President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi announced in a press conference on Saturday.

Healthcare staff working in isolation facilities, chest hospitals, and fever wards will be vaccinated first, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Health, Khaled Megahed, said in a televised interview.

Once the medical staff are vaccinated, priority groups of the general public will have access to the vaccine.  

The government will start administering 50,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine, which will cover 25,000 people over the coming three weeks. 

Late on Saturday, the Ministry of Health reported 680 new COVID-19 infections, taking the tally to 161,143 with 126,176 recoveries and 8,902 deaths.
