Egypt invests EGP 355bn to develop national electricity grid since 2014

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt has invested a total of EGP 355 billion during the period from 2014 to 2022 to support and develop its national grid electricity transmission, the Ministry of Electricity said.

During fiscal year (FY) 2021/2022, the ministry achieved 62% of its plans. Investments during the year amounted to EGP 12,30 billion, EGP 8,30 billion of which in addition to EGP 4 billion were directed to projects aimed at improving the grid performance and maintaining the quality level of electric feeding.

During 2014-2022, total investments in existing and future distribution projects reached EGP 190 billion.

So far, more than 14 million smart and prepaid meters were installed by electricity distribution companies, of which 213,000 were installed by six firms this year. 

Egypt's government plans to replace old meters with smart or prepaid ones and build communication networks and relevant data centers in the upcoming 10 years.
