Egypt constructs EGP 190bn water, sanitation projects since 2014

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, Assem El-Gazzar, announced that 571 water and sanitation projects are currently being established at a total cost of EGP 63.3 billion.

The drinking water projects have a combined capacity of 22.9 million cubic metres per day, while the sanitation projects have the capacity to handle 3.1 million cubic metres of water per day, El-Gazzar said in a statement on Sunday.

Since President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi took office in 2014, the country witnessed the construction of 1,714 water and sanitation projects in urban and rural areas at a cost of EGP 190 billion.

So far, a total of 1,143 water and sanitation projects have been established with respective daily capacities of 11 million cubic metres and 6.9 million cubic metres at a cost of EGP 128.1 billion.

Water projects serve more than 60 million people, while sanitation projects serve over 45 million people.
