Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt's agricultural quarantine authority is reckoning the rejection of 63,000 tonnes of Romanian wheat which arrived at the Red Sea port of Safaga, sources told Reuters.
The authority found that the shipment, purchased by the General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC), contains poppy seeds, they added.
Another source said that the final decision regarding the cargo will be made Tuesday, according to the agency.
Egypt, the world's largest wheat importer, consumes approximately 15 million tonnes of wheat per year, according to the Egyptian government.
