Cairo - Mubasher: The Egyptian government has injected EGP 47 billion investments across the governorates of Upper Egypt in fiscal year 2020/2021, up 50% from fiscal year 2019/2020, according to Middle East News Agency (MENA).
The Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Hala El-Saeed, said that the government's investments in Upper Egypt have represented 25% of its total investments in Egypt in fiscal year 2020/2021.
El-Saeed referred that the sustainable development plan for 2020/2021 focuses on the development of Upper Egypt to improve the quality of life, provide citizens with job opportunities, and reduce migration flows to urban areas.
In fiscal year 20/21, EGP 2.9 billion investments were approved as part of the Upper Egypt Local Development Programme, comprising EGP 1.3 billion investments in Qena and EGP 1.6 billion in Sohag.
Drinking water and sanitation projects have represented 43% of these investments, recording a total value of EGP 2.5 billion, while EGP 1.3 billion was allocated for road and transportation projects, accounting for 22.3% of the total investments.
During the past four years, 1,749 projects have been implemented at a total value of EGP 2.4 billion as part of the Upper Egypt Local Development Programme: 532 projects valued at EGP 1.3 billion for Qena and 1,217 projects valued at EGP 1.1 billion for Sohag.
