Cairo - Mubasher: The Egyptian Minister of Local Development, Mahmoud Shaarawy, announced the allocation of EGP 19.8 billion for the investment plan for governorates in fiscal year (FY) 2021/2022.
The allocated amount will be used for financing the urgent needs for governorates and resuming projects in various sectors, including electricity, road lighting, road pavement, environment protection, security, firefighting, traffic, and local unit support, Shaarawy said in a statement on Monday.
The projects are aimed at improving environmental performance and electricity services as well as facilitating the movement between villages and cities and supporting citizens to establish small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The Upper Egyptian governorates had the largest share of the local development allocations with a value of EGP 8.1 billion, while the Greater Cairo region obtained EGP 4.3 billion and the Sinai region received EGP 636 million.
