Egypt-France bilateral trade hits $1.6bn in 9M

Cairo – Mubasher: Bilateral trade between Egypt and France reached $2.4 billion in 2019 and $1.6 billion in the first nine months of 2020, according to data released by the Central Agency for Statistics and Public Mobilization (CAPMAS) on Monday.

Egypt’s exports to France amounted to $654 million in 2019 and $412 million in the January-September period of 2020, while the North African’s imports from France stood at $1.746 billion last year and $1.231 billion in the nine-month period ended on 30 September.

The CAMPAS issued these figures to mark the visit of the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to France.

El-Sisi arrived in Paris on Sunday to hold talks with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron with the aim of enhancing cooperation between the two countries.    

The total foreign investment (receipts) from France registered $448.8 million, whereas the total departing investments (payments) to France recorded $1.3126 billion, including loan repayments.

Accordingly, the balance of foreign investments was in favour of France with a value of $863.8 million in fiscal year 2018/2019.

Remittances of Egyptian expatriate workers in France stood at $112.8 million, while remittances from the French working in Egypt reached $11.6 million.

The number of Egyptians living in France totalled 416,250 at the end of 2019.
