ENEC, France’s EDF to cooperate on research and development in nuclear energy

UAE - Mubasher: The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) and France’s electricity company EDF have inked a letter of intent to reach a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to cooperate on research and development (R&D) in the nuclear energy sector.

The cooperation is in line with ENEC’s commitment towards improving the UAE’s nuclear energy industry, supporting innovation and clean electricity production, and tackling climate change, according to a press release on Wednesday.

Under the planned MoU, ENEC and EDF will share global expertise and the latest advancements in the nuclear energy sector and explore the production of green hydrogen powered by carbon-free nuclear energy.

The letter of intent was signed at the annual Emirati French Industrial Supply Chain Initiative for Nuclear (E-FUSION), a two-day event held through a partnership between ENEC and Business France.

Since November 2018, EDF has provided ENEC's operations and maintenance joint venture subsidiary Nawah Energy Company (Nawah) with a range of services, including operational safety, radiation protection, fuel-cycle management, and environmental monitoring.
