EGX ends Wednesday in red; market cap sheds EGP 1.7bn

Cairo – Mubasher: Sell-offs by foreign and Arab investors dragged down the indices of the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) on Wednesday.

The benchmark EGX30 index closed the session at 13,078 points, losing 42.91 points, or 0.33%.

The small- and mid-cap EGX70 index inched down 0.05% to 676.14 points, while the broader EGX100 index dipped 0.13% to 1,692 points.

Similarly, the equal-weighted EGX50 index closed the session 0.03% down at 2,154 points.

Almost 158.6 million shares were traded on today’s session through 22,400 transactions at a turnover of EGP 713.23 million.

Egyptian investors were mostly buyers, netting EGP 61.4 million, whereas foreign and Arab investors were net sellers with EGP 52.4 million and EGP 9.03 million, respectively.

The heavyweight Commercial International Bank (CIB) edged up 0.44% to 74.62, with a turnover of EGP 86.4 million.

Moreover, market capitalisation shed EGP 1.7 billion, finishing the session at EGP 744.52 billion.
