EGA starts operating Al Taweelah smelter expansion's first section

UAE - Mubasher: Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) has started operating the first section of the company's Al Taweelah smelter expansion project.

The company will ramp up 26 new reduction cells at potline 1 at Al Taweelah to produce some 30,000 tonnes of aluminium per year, raising EGA's total number of reduction cells in both Jebel Ali to Al Taweelah to 2,803, according to a recent press release.

EGA is constructing 66 new reduction cells to expand all three potlines at Al Taweelah to raise the production capacity by some 78,000 tonnes of hot metal per year.

A total of 70% of the project has been completed as per the schedule despite the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The CEO of EGA, Abdulnasser bin Kalban, commented: "This project to expand our production at Al Taweelah is part of our ongoing debottlenecking of production and investment in high return growth opportunities."
