Dubai records 31% higher pharma, medical supplies trade in Q1-21

UAE - Mubasher: The value of Dubai’s external pharmaceutical and medical supplies trade jumped by 31% to AED 6.8 billion during the first quarter (Q1) of 2021 from AED 5.2 billion in the year-ago period, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.

Dubai’s external pharma and medical supplies trade comprised AED 5.3 billion imports, AED 590 million exports, and AED 1.4 billion exports and re-exports, as shown by the statistics released by Dubai Customs.

Meanwhile, the volume of Dubai trade in pharma and medical supplies hiked by 47% to 48,600 tonnes in the first three months of 2021 from 33,000 tonnes in the corresponding period of 2020.

The Manager of the statistics section at Dubai Customs, Nassim Al Mehairi, said: "Dubai Customs has sought to keep pace with the growing demand for pharmaceuticals and medical supplies in light of the current COVID-19 situation, putting more efforts to ensure quick inspection, clearance and release of these strategic goods to meet the community’s needs and maintain product availability in the market."
