Dubai opens MENA’s first solar-powered green hydrogen facility

UAE - Mubasher: Dubai has inaugurated the MENA’s first industrial-scale and solar-powered green hydrogen facility at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai.

The green hydrogen facility is implemented in collaboration with Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Expo 2020 Dubai, and Siemens Energy, according to a recent press release.

To be powered by solar power from the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the facility is expected to generate around 20.5 kilograms of hydrogen an hour at 1.25 megawatts of peak power.

Therefore, this project will enable DEWA to prove the production of green hydrogen from solar power, alongside the storage and re-electrification of hydrogen.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Chairman of the Expo 2020 Dubai Higher Committee, said: "In Dubai, we have a clear direction for the energy sector. It includes expanding the use of clean energy and employing digital transformation, smart grids, the tools of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and disruptive technologies, for their impact on the energy and water sectors."
