DWC passenger traffic hikes 26% in Q3

Dubai – Mubasher: Dubai World Central (DWC) on Monday revealed that its passenger traffic rose 26.1% year-on-year to 119,000 travelers during the third quarter of 2018.

During the period between January and October of this year, DWC, which is positioned as the world's first purpose-built aerotropolis, welcomed around 637,176 passengers.

Western Europe topped the regions contributing to passenger traffic with a total number of 40,349 travelers, followed by Eastern Europe, Beirut and Amman with 38,740, 20,566 and 16,216 passengers.

The airport, lies at the heart of an entire airport city, was opened on 27 June 2010 for cargo operations followed by passenger flights in October 2013.

The total number of flights decreased 11.7% year-on-year to 5,742 trips during the three-month period ended 30 September.

As for the fourth quarter of 2018, the outlook for passenger traffic is positive due to the seasonal rush of tourists typically seen during winter months, as well as the launch of new services from scheduled and charter carriers.
