UAE - Mubasher: DP World has recorded a 9.4% year-on-year (YoY) increase in container volumes to 77.9 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) across its global portfolio during 2021.
During the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2021, the company has handled 19.6 million TEU, up 2.6% on a reported basis and 2.3% on a like-for-like basis when compared to the year-ago period, according to a press release on Monday.
This year's gross volume growth is mainly driven by the performance of India, Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa, Europe, Australia, and Americas regions.
Jebel Ali (UAE) registered a 1.9% YoY rise in volumes to 13.7 million TEU in 2021.
The Group Chairman and CEO, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, said: "As expected, growth rates moderated in the final quarter of 2021 as the new covid variant, inflation and supply chain bottlenecks impacted global growth."
Sulayem added: "However, looking ahead to 2022, we expect our portfolio to continue to deliver growth and, while the year has started encouragingly, we remain mindful that the Covid-19 pandemic, continued supply chain disruptions, rising inflation, and geopolitical uncertainty could continue to hinder the global economic recovery."
