DP World records 8% gross volume growth in Q4-20

Dubai - Mubasher: The gross container volumes of DP World Limited rose by 7.6% on a reported basis to 19.1 million TEU during the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2020, when compared to the same period of 2019.

On a like-for-like basis, DP World recorded a 6.5% year-on-year (YoY) gross volume growth in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2020, according to a press release on Monday.

The growth in the like-for-like basis is attributed to a strong performance from India's Mundra, London Gateway, Netherlands' Rotterdam, Belgium's Antwerp Gateway, and Egypt's Sokhna.

Jebel Ali in the UAE registered 3.4 million TEU in Q4-20, up 0.3% YoY.

On an annual basis, DP World handled 71.2 million TEU in 2020, flat year-on-year and up 0.2% on a like-for-like basis.

In addition, DP World handled 41.7 million TEU on a 2020 consolidated basis, up 4.6% on a reported basis and down 1.8% on a like-for-like basis. 

Commenting on DP World's performance, the Group Chairman and CEO, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, said: "The growth in volumes was encouraging across all our regions with India being a key driver, while our flagship port of Jebel Ali (UAE) saw volumes stabilizing."

Sulayem added: "We continue to invest selectively in projects that offer compelling value such as Dakar in Senegal) and Luanda in Angola. Our strategy to provide solutions to cargo owners has served us well, and our aim is to continue to build on this momentum."
