DP World Sokhna inks agreement to restart livestock facility

Cairo - Mubasher: DP World Sokhna has entered into a multi-year agreement with  International Meat Capital, an Egypt-based private conglomerate, to restart the livestock facility starting from August 2021 at the Ain El Sokhna port.

Under the agreement, DP World Sokhna will receive livestock-carrying ships and transport International Meat Capital livestock to the facility, according to a press release on Monday.

Spanning over a total area of ​​211,000 square metres, the facility includes a veterinary quarantine area, alongside product processing and packaging units, which will be built in the second phase of the project.

The first phase targets 37,000 head of livestock annually, with the aim to reach 90,000 per year by the second phase.

Egypt Country Manager and CEO of DP World Sokhna, Gerard van den Heuvel, said: "Once operational, the facility will be a great example of our aim to become a Trade Enhancer and to help contribute to Egypt’s high-quality food security while supporting the growth of the economy and creating new jobs."

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Intro Group, Mamdouh Abbas, commented: "We are very happy to add the livestock sector to our group’s portfolio, which also includes energy and renewable energy, real estate development, food and beverages, healthcare services as well as direct investments."
