DEWA partners with France’s Eutelsat to develop Space-D programme

Dubai – Mubasher: The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has penned a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Eutelsat, a French satellite operator, to develop its Space-D programme and 3U nanosatellite DEWA-SAT1.

The partnership will enhance the nanosatellite internet of things (IoT) terminals while reinforcing connectivity between DEWA’s assets and nanosatellite, according to a press release.

The MoU aims to explore the potential integration of Eutelsat Earth Low Orbit (ELO) satellites with the Space-D programme and scale the nanosatellites for both sides.

DEWA and Eutelsat will team up to design, develop, and implement the first use-case at DEWA’s Research & Development (R&D) Centre.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, CEO and Managing Director of DEWA, said: “Through Space-D, DEWA researches the use of space technology to support utilities to improve their operations and planning. This will support sustainable development and a green economy in the UAE and worldwide.”

During the first quarter (Q1) of 2022, DEWA generated AED 734.51 million in net profit, compared to AED 547.28 million in Q1-21.
