Coronavirus-related exemptions to cost Egypt's banks EGP 4.7bn

Cairo - Mubasher: Egypt's measures to relieve the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on economy will cost the banking sector EGP 4.7 billion, a source at the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) told the Middle East News Agency (MENA).

Relief and exemption measures have cost the banking sector about EGP 3.5 billion since the decisions took effect, and another EGP 1.2 billion are expected to be incurred after the exemptions are extended till the end of 2021, the source added. 

On Wednesday, the CBE decided to extend the cancellation of fees and commissions on EGP-denominated bank transfers, ATM withdrawals, and POS transactions until 31 December 2021.
