China’s Oneroad Taxi starts operations in Dubai

Dubai – Mubasher: Oneroad Taxi, Dubai’s seventh taxi franchise and its first Chinese taxi firm, started operation in Dubai on Wednesday, adding 100 taxis of Toyota Camrys to the emirate’s fleet of cabs of 10,834 taxis.

“The cooperation between the UAE and China is improving and Dubai has a big and growing market with opportunities to invest,” Oneroad’s general manager told Gulf News.

The firm is looking to raise its fleet to 2,000 vehicles by 2020 including limousines, ladies and special needs taxis.

The new taxis are part of the UAE’s Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) efforts to increase the taxi fleet in the country in a bid to meet the demand, especially during Expo 2020 Dubai.

“The demand for taxis is increasing and we are gradually increasing the fleet in the run-up to Expo 2020,” Mohammad Abubaker Al Hashemi, director of business planning at the RTA’s Public Transport Agency, said.

He added that around 2,500 will be dedicated to the event.

The six-month Expo 2020 Dubai will be held on 20 October 2020 to 10 April 2021 and is expected to welcome more than 25 million visitors.
