UAE - Mubasher: Borouge, a joint venture between ADNOC and Borealis, has launched the operations of its new fifth polypropylene unit (PP5) in Ruwais in Abu Dhabi.
Established in the Borouge 3 plant, the unit will contribute to raising the UAE's polypropylene production to fulfill the growing global demand for manufactured products, according to a press release on Thursday.
The new unit will produce 480,000 tonnes per year (t/y), enabling Borouge to increase its polypropylene production capacity by over 25% to 2.24 million t/y.
The CEO Borouge Pte, Rainer Hoefling, said: "We work closely with our customers and value chain partners to achieve their circular economy commitments through several initiatives. These include the development of mono-material packaging solutions that are designed for recyclability."
The CEO of Abu Dhabi Polymers Company (Borouge), Hazeem Sultan Al Suwaidi, commented: "Our PP5 unit, will enable us to meet our customers’ increasing demand for polypropylene solutions, especially in the packaging and infrastructure sectors across our key markets in the Middle East, Asia Pacific and Africa."
