Nikkei 225 declined 0.5% to 16,654 points, while the broader Topix index fell 0.3% to 1,338 points.
Dollar/yen fell 0.3% to ¥109.91 by 7:50GMT.
On the flipside, China’s Shanghai composite index rose 0.55%, while India’s Sensex climbed 0.07%.
