Aramco, Petronas start trial operation of crude distillation JV

Riyadh – Mubasher: The Saudi Arabian Oil Co, known internationally as Saudi Aramco, and Malaysia-based Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) announced the beginning of trial operation for the joint venture (JV) of the crude distillation unit (CDU) last week, two informed sources said.

The facility received its second cargo of the Saudi crude oil that includes two million barrels in the week before, Reuters reported, citing the sources and Refinitiv Eikon’s data.

The unit’s pilot operation is considered an important step towards the beginning of Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (RAPID) project which means that its commercial operation may start this year.

RAPID comprises of a 300,000 barrels per day (bpd) refinery and secondary refining units that will allow the two firms to produce refined oil products that meet Euro 5 fuel specifications.
