Arab-Brazilian trade seen prospering

Mubasher: The trade between the Arab World and Brazil is thriving, based on the numbers issued by the organizstion covering Brazilian exports to Arab countries during the first half of 2016, the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) stated in a press release on Tuesday.

Arab countries’ imports from Brazil reached $5,243 billion from January to June 2016, with Saudi Arabia having the biggest share of 23.7% ($1,243 billion), followed by the UAE with 17.36%, Egypt with 16.65%, Qatar 2.33%, and Kuwait 2.08%.

Meat accounted for the most exports with 35% or $1,828 billion of exports to the Arab World, the report said. Sugar came in second place with 26.6% or $1,395 billion followed by cereals with 6.52% ($341.64 million), registering the highest year-on-year increase of 113.94%.

The chamber’s secretary general and CEO Dr. Michel Alaby said, “We are very optimistic about the state of trade between Brazil and the Arab World. We believe these numbers reflect the strong relations between both economies, and we hope it will serve as further encouragement for businesses to explore the infinite potentials that the business environment has to offer.”
