Cairo – Mubasher: Alexandria Customs collected total taxes of EGP 1.861 billion for issuing customs clearance for cars and spare parts at a combined value of EGP 5.717 billion in November, Head of the Egyptian Customs Authority, El-Sayed Kamal Negm, said.
The state-run body collected total taxes of EGP 1.3 billion for releasing 16,845 private passenger cars with a total value of EGP 4.302 billion in the 23rd month of introducing zero tariffs on cars imported from the European Union (EU), according to a statement released by the Ministry of Finance on Monday.
A large number of these cars were exempt from the payment of more than EGP 1.931 billion under the EU-Egypt association agreement, Agadir agreement, the free trade agreement with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), and the preferential free trade agreement with the Southern Common Market (Mercosur).
Moreover, Alexandria Customs collected taxes and charges of EGP 161 million for releasing 1,316 trucks, microbuses, motorcycles, and tractors valued at EGP 739 million in November.
Some of these vehicles were also exempt from the payment of EGP 51 million under the EU-Egypt association agreement, Agadir agreement, the free trade agreement with the EFTA, and the preferential free trade agreement with the Mercosur.
The state-run body also collected taxes and charges of EGP 119 million for releasing 721 dispatches of spare parts valued at EGP 676 million, while some dispatches were exempt from the payment of EGP 27 million.
