Dubai – Mubasher: The number of travelers through Al Maktoum International Airport fell by 2.3 year-on-year during the first quarter of 2019, reaching 326.680 people.
Russia accounted for nearly 50% of the passenger traffic through the airport in Q1-19 with 167,930 travellers, followed by Germany with 71,160 travellers, Romania with 21,970 travellers, and Hungary with 12,440 travellers, according to a press release.
Total flights through Al Maktoum airport dropped by 3.2% to 7,899 during the three-month period ended March, as compared to Q1-18, the release added.
Moreover, air cargo shipped through the airport amounted to around 43,000 tonnes in Q1-19, down 9.3% year-on-year.
The number of travellers through Al Maktoum airport is likely to increase in Q2-19 as Dubai International Airport has closed one of its two runways for upgrade and maintenance work and part of the flights will be directed to Al Maktoum airport as of 16 April to 30 May, the release noted.
Al Maktoum International Airport has 11 airlines that operate 146 flights a week to 31 international destinations and has 18 cargo operators that ship to up to 45 cities.
