Abu Dhabi GDP jumps to AED 456bn in 6M

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The gross domestic product (GDP) of the emirate of Abu Dhabi registered a 12% year-on-year increase in the first six months of 2018, data released on Sunday showed.

The emirate’s GDP amounted to AED 456 billion ($124.17 billion) between January and June 2018 versus AED 407 billion ($110.83 billion) in the same period of 2017, the Statistics Centre − Abu Dhabi (SCAD) said.

Abu Dhabi’s GDP growth was back primarily by oil activities in the emirate, which registered AED 180 billion or around 39.4% of the GDP basket in current prices in the first six months of 2018.

In the first quarter of the year, Abu Dhabi’s GDP grew 9% from a year ago, while the pace of growth had increased by 15.3% in Q2-18 from the corresponding period of 2017, the SCAD said.

At the level of the quarters, oil activities surged 35.7% in Q2-18 versus 15.2% in Q1-18, the data indicated.

As for non-oil activities, the emirate logged AED 276 billion in GDP in H1-18, up 4.9% AED 263 billion registered in the same period of 2017.
