ADX hits highest weekly gains in 4M

Mubasher: The benchmark index of Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) gained 3.86% or 171.7 points to close at 4,615.23 points by the week ended 6 April from 4,443.53 points in the past week; the highest weekly performance in the past four months.

ADX’s market cap increased by AED 15.16 billion ($4.12 billion) to reach AED 475.051 billion ($129.31 billion) this week from AED 459.89 billion ($125.181 billion) in the previous week.

ADX’s turnover shrank by 9.2% to total AED 1.178 billion from AED 1.298 billion in the previous week.

The trading volume decreased by 8.7% to stand at 490.966 million shares from 537.606 million in the prior week.

The Energy sector was the top gainer this week with a 9.09% rise, on the back of TAQA which soared by 23.91%.

The banks segment rose by 6.77% this week, endorsed by NBAD after the merger with FGB, with the new stock trading with a gain of 9.76%.

Meanwhile, the consumer goods sector led the decliners with a drop of 2.19%, dragged by Asma which lost 5.50%.
